An Update on the State of the Michael G. Fitzpatrick Scholars at BCCC  – April 2025
Thank you to the Fitzpatrick family, the Foundation Board, and all of you supporting this special program. You are making a tremendous impact on these amazing students who are The Michael G. Fitzpatrick Scholars!
My name is Christopher Seifert, and I am the Director of Student Engagement & Leadership Development in the Student Life Office here at BCCC. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work so closely with such incredible young people who are making a difference here at Bucks County Community College and, in the spirit of your beloved Michael Fitzpatrick, out in our community. These students are serving their community while they are students here so that they will – like Michael – commit to lifelong service and to helping those in need long after they graduate from Bucks. Your generosity and commitment allow these students the opportunity to participate in service and learn how vital that is to make our college, our community, and our world a better, more selfless place. We cannot thank you enough.  I also want to thank the people that make my job here at Bucks so special and meaningful – these students. You have worked hard all year both inside and outside of the classroom, and we are proud to identify you as a Fitzpatrick Scholar. Thank you for answering my emails and meeting with me and putting up with my constant requests to “show up at _____ and volunteer.”

I am looking out at students who consistently have answered the call to serve their community and represent this program. Fitzpatrick Scholars have volunteered at:
• A Woman’s Place in Doylestown
• Habitat for Humanity
• Travis Manion Foundation
• Bucks County Girls’ Softball
• Delaware Valley Veterans’ Home
• Christ’s Home in Warminster

They have also assisted at fundraisers and events here on campus including Open Houses, a regional high school DECA event, helping the fire victims in California, and more. They are terrific representatives of the college, and we are so proud of them for what they have done to help others throughout the year.

Most importantly, they are excelling inside the classroom. The Fitzpatrick Scholars as a group make the Dean’s List, with a 3.5 average GPA! Many of them do this while working jobs outside of Bucks and staying engaged with the activities and events happening around the college. We are so proud of them for what they are achieving in the classroom as they work toward a bright future after they leave Bucks.

And finally, one of the greatest signs that we are growing this program and that our name is getting out to incoming students is the number of applicants. In the first year of the Fitzpatrick Scholarship, we had about 10 students apply to join, and last year we chose six students. This year, we had 54 applicants for the scholarship, and you are meeting the 5 that we have been fortunate enough to select as this year’s scholars who joined the 4 that returned from last year. These nine have and will surely continue to demonstrate to everyone here at Bucks and in the community how important the Michael G. Fitzpatrick Scholars program is and how much value it adds to them as individuals, the college, and the entire community. We have continued plans for growth with new activities and projects spearheaded by our students, and we will be excited to meet at the beginning of the Fall semester so that our new scholars can meet these outstanding returning scholars and realize what an elite, kind, impactful group they are now a part of in the Michael G. Fitzpatrick Scholars.
